Sashiko Stitch Signatures

Sashiko Stitch Signatures
Join textile artist Seiko Kinoshita to create your own stitched identity by learning the ancient and traditional art of Sashiko.

Sashiko has been used for centuries in Japanese culture to adorn and mend clothing, and Seiko will guide you on how you can experiment with your techniques to make clothes unique, last longer and be your own skill signature. All materials provided, but please feel free to bring an item of your clothing to adorn or mend with Sashiko.

This workshop is inspired by World 170, contributed by Jo Collier, where in 2026 stitched signatures represent complex identities and mending and adornment become common practice; The more signatures a garment holds the more it is prized, valued and kept. fashionfictions.org/the-worlds/

Fashion Fictions is about exploring the possibilities of more sustainable worlds; whilst creating your Sashiko style, you can immerse yourself in World 170 and think about how this could be made a reality.

This event is part of the Field to Fashion project funded by Art Fund and Rolls-Royce, as part of our STEAM Learning programme.

Suitable for ages 8+ (under 12s to be accompanied by an adult). Booking essential.
