Lennon portrait attracts £45,000 bid
A portrait of John Lennon by Scottish artist Peter Howson has received a bid of £45,000 – 50% higher than the painter’s valuation.
The portrait will go on show at the John Lennon Northern Lights Festival in Durness in Sutherland at the end of September, along with around other 20 works of the ex-Beatle.
Howson, who claims the 4x3ft portrait is his finest, has not accepted the bid, with others from around the world interested.
“I can’t say too much about things at the moment because there are more offers ongoing, but one gallery has offered £45,000 on behalf of a private collector. And the paint is hardly dry.”
The Glasgow artist added: “We’ll have to see what transpires over the next few weeks, but either way it is definitely going to Durness.”
The festival is held from September 28 to 30.
