The List

Shacklewell Arms

The back room of the Shacklewell Arms is the place to be for gigs, club nights, magazine launches and other events, seven days a week. Music-wise, expect unknowns to mingle with up-and-comers, for reasonable prices (often free; usually less than a tenner). Generally veering on the indie side, although Solange Knowles has manned the decks in the past. The front room is a pub, with a big screen for football, a pool table and a wide range of ales and lagers to satisfy most tastes. Burgers are the meal of choice -- the pub are working their way through 50 different burgers to represent all 50 states of America, so that's plenty of choice. There are also veggie options, hot dogs and sides. Bus numbers 488, 236, 149, 76 all stop nearby, while Dalston Kingsland and Dalston Junction tube stations are about five minutes walk away.

Pit Pony

Pit Pony

18 Oct 2025 - 29 Oct 2025

Fiercely honest, Jackies lyricism portrays an intense duality and a vulnerability that is instantly relatable. Turning inwards to explore notions of motherhood, imposter syndrome and getting older, while simultaneously outwards through commentary on the cost of living, polluted water, the constant sell on social media and the off menu Starbucks coffee obsession. With the band citing the recent influences of Blue Weekend and Skinty Fia alongside the likes of Can and the soundtracks of Ennio Moriconne, mastering engineer Christian Wright (Wolf Alice, Fontaines D.C., Pigs x7) proves the perfect fit with Chris McManus (Blank Studios) heading up recording & production. Sonically, Pit Pony remain loyal to their roots, noting the influence of regional titans Nadine Shah and The Futureheads and with the ENGLISH ACCENT god damn it reminder on PJ Harveys Uh Huh Her in mind, Jackie Purver stays true to her accent. Dead Stars sees Pit Pony deliver an expanded but yet more balanced and personal conception of their craft. Garth Purver explains that the band were aiming for a more rounded and complete record that showcased multiple sides to us but hung together as one piece of work rather than a collection of separate tracks. While Andrew Jones mentions how the band encouraged each other to pull on those strands and incorporate more of our personal taste in the sound.

Max Winter + Pearl2 + Couch Prints

Max Winter + Pearl2 + Couch Prints

24 Jun 2025 - 24 Jun 2025

Max Winter’s music seeks to traverse a breadth of styles - a world where freewheeling jazzwise drum workouts linger behind silk bass and glooming electronics, where compositional flurries of flute, cello, keys, and violin playfully exchange with restrained melodic ambience, where crystalline vocal melodies float above terminator slap bass sessions... it’s literally all going on...and all at the same time. Pearl2 are a London-based electronic trio fusing hypnotic club energy with off-kilter pop. Fronted by Lola Stephen (Hank), whose airy vocals float over Dylan Jones’ lithe basslines and Tom Kellet’s (Moreish Idols) restless, textured electronics, their sound is raw, rhythmic, and intoxicating. Drawing inspiration from leftfield icons like Lena Platonos, Boards Of Canada, Prima Scream, and Saâda Bonaire, Pearl2 blur the lines between the cerebral and the physical. Couch Prints is Jayanna Roberts and Brandon Tong. It is an experimental pop project formed in New York and best heard from the backseat. In their own private world, they blend midwestern emo with countrypolitan twang and launder it all through a cold synthetic electronica. Taking cues from influential electronica “bands” like Sweet Trip, Frou Frou, and The Knife, they seamlessly blend disparate worlds of popular music to create a sound more tied to affect than to genre, something that speaks to the schizophrenic nature of contemporary life. Throughout their music runs a through line - a reflection on the isolation core to the middle-American experience, and modern world more generally. A world where excess and self-destruction are the last remaining avenues of self realization and change the only constant. Presented by Bad Vibrations 18+ only (photo ID required)

"Set aside some time to sit back and let Magic Shoppe whisk you away. Who knows, you might not want to come back." - DKFM Magic Shoppe are known for their love of distortion and reverb. Taking notes from My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Raveonettes, Sonic Youth and Loop, the band has a shoegaze sound that flirts with noise rock. Dark, fuzzed-out guitars can wash into soundscapes or crash into a sonic maelström. They balance retro and futuristic music with driving bass and dirty rhythms, mixed with dark vocal melodies. Magic Shoppe have offered up their own wall of sound blend of raw Shoegaze across 6 LPs, 6 EPs and 1 Live LP over the past 13 years. The band recently hit 3.5 million streams for their top Spotify songs, as well as having 105,000 Spotify monthly listeners. In October 2024 the band had a song featured on the popular Netflix series, Outer Banks. In the last 5 years, Magic Shoppe have completed 5 tours of the EU/UK and 3 mini-tours of the US/Canada. Chime School + Autocamper

Chime School + Autocamper

21 Jul 2025 - 21 Jul 2025

Chime School: Marrying the pristine jangle of electric 12-string guitars with nervy, hooky songs, Chime School conjures a unique and instantly recognizable form of indie pop, rooted in the buoyant, driving pulse of their 1980’s and 90’s forebearers, while still locked in a kaleidoscopic stare with the genre’s 1960’s originators. Autocamper: Manchester’s Autocamper are the perfect pop antidote to the city’s predictable post-punk machismo. Like a Northern kitchen sink rendering of The Vaselines’ call and response motif, vocal duties are shared by Jack Harkins and Niamh Purtill-their world-weary reflections on bedroom tiffs and hungover misdemeanors capture the jangle pop spirit of the ‘80s without the C86 revisionism. Ruth Lyon

Ruth Lyon

20 Jun 2025 - 23 Oct 2025

Newcastle folk/chamber pop artist Ruth Lyon found herself feeling like crap every time Vogue magazine dropped onto her front door mat, yet still she didn’t cancel her subscription. Even as the pages prodded at insecurities there was something strangely addictive about mindlessly flipping through it every month. The situation inspired the title of her second EP, Direct Debit To Vogue (2022), produced by John Parish, who has notably worked with PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding and This Is The Kit. The songs explore self-doubt, insecurity, emotional masochism, the weight of arbitrary expectations. All of this is un-ravelled through offbeat, sophisticated chamber pop and anti-folk, commanded by Lyon’s soulful vocals and witty yet raw lyricism. Over the years, she’s established herself as a key and active member of the Newcastle music scene, including in her role on the board of directors at Sage Gateshead and as lead singer of cult folk rockers Holy Moly & The Crackers. She has also advocated for the Disabled community in her work as an ambassador for Attitude Is Everything, a charity that aims to improve accessibility for Deaf and Disabled people in live music; Lyon herself has been a wheelchair user since the age of 21. The key themes that Lyon found were at the core of all these songs were power in fragility, and beauty in imperfection. This turns on its head all the societal assumptions represented by those Vogue magazines and opens up doors to a new kind of self-acceptance and power. “I want it to be very inclusive, like anybody could listen to any of the songs and come up with their own story, or it would mirror their individual circumstances,” she says. “I wanted to evoke the feeling of the kinda music that just punches you in the gut. Rather than ‘oh, this is pretty, this is nice’ — I want to emotionally drag some stuff out of people.” She concludes Direct Debit to Vogue’s journey with four simple words: “I’ve found my voice.”
Plastic Factory's 2'nd Bday

Plastic Factory's 2'nd Bday

17 Jul 2025 - 17 Jul 2025

Plastic Factory turns 2! To celebrate, we’ll be joined by friends old and new in the form of Egyptian Blue, Slow Fiction & The Itch PLUS a special DJ set from Mercury Award winning legends, English Teacher. Slow Fiction Forming out of a tapestry of hometown friendships and college connections, Slow Fiction emerged into a music scene fragmented by lockdowns. They grew closer as restrictions dropped away and audiences grew, using the shifts to experiment with their material and reach more expansive and formidable levels. The final product is a landmine of sound, inspired by the raw, sweeping fuzz of the likes of Sonic Youth and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Familiar elements of noughties era guitar shine through, confronted with cutting contemporary angst to create a nostalgic yet intoxicating sound. The Itch Having first appeared on the capital’s live circuit at the tail-end of 2023, The Itch’s pairing of undulating dancefloor fillers and disenchanted pop songwriting saw them quickly become a name that was passed between gig goers despite a notable absence from social media, as word-of-mouth spread about an act channeling the stadium rock sensibilities of REM through a modern dance filter. Presented by AEG. This is an 18+ event.

Bugbear + Sheepish + Electric Cherry Blossom
Bugbear Electronic art rock goblins drawing from radiohead-esque harmonies, the whimsical poetry of Big Thief and Jockstrap's electronic wizardry, Bugbear blend together a wide range of sound worlds Sheepish Spearheaded by songwriter Charlie Bowles, and performing live with a 5-strong line-up that has been playing together since childhood, London’s Sheepish set their stall on spinning out fluffy, hook-laden indie-psych, tinged with the pangs of esoteric weirdness. Mingling the familiarities of bedroom textures, candied melodies with a penchant for weird experiments and vintage production techniques, each Sheepish track offers its own wondrous pocket-sized adventure - think King Gizzard-esque neo-psych and jangle pop mixed with a Syd Barrett-esque quintessential British awkwardness. Electric Cherry Blossom Born in the living room of a Southeast London flat, Electric Cherry Blossom's ever expanding roster of members is almost as exhaustive as their number of influences. Serving a sonic buffet of folk, psychedelic rock, and punk, your ears will leave well fed: so come hungry. Presented by The Shacklewell Arms This is an 18+ event
Kipp Boucher + Nella + Running Standard
Kipp Boucher Brighton-born, East London-based crooner Kipp Boucher delivers orchestral soft-rock with a sardonic twist. His latest EP, Joy of Life, showcases his knack for blending vintage instrumentation with biting social commentary. Think Scott Walker meets Harry Nilsson, filtered through a modern lens. Nella London-based queer indie-pop artist Nella crafts ethereal tracks that blend vulnerability with catchy melodies. Her recent single, "Bad Weather," exemplifies her ability to turn introspection into anthems. Running Standard This London trio weaves alternative, indie, and folk elements into their music, characterized by layered arrangements and poignant lyrics. Their album Late Night Theatrics offers a glimpse into their dynamic range, from introspective ballads to energetic anthems. Bbbbbbb

8 Oct 2025 - 8 Oct 2025

Baba Yaga's Hut Presents: Bbbbbbb Shunning the typical confrontational or stone-faced noisenik stance, this trio of troublemakers from Aichi Prefecture, Japan, approaches noise with a uniquely skewed sense of humor - one that never slips into mere parody or carelessness. Formed by Ryuseigun Saionji, who spent years envisioning a career in stand-up comedy, and rounded out by G.R.D.V. and Marao, BBBBBBB inject their colorful, digital hardcore-noise with a kind of twisted wit that might even recall the absurdist spirit of Yamataka Eye’s work with Boredoms. Their 2023 release “SHINPI” is described by the group as ‘Japanese Progressive Deconstructed Scum New Age’ - and with its brief bursts of gabber-influenced high-speed rhythms, kaleidoscopic arpeggios, distorted vocals, and theatrical flair drawn from Japan’s micro-scum movement, the label feels surprisingly fitting. 15 Jul 2025 - 15 Jul 2025

SPIKE - Spike is the synth-pop project of Hannah McLoughlin. Released on Gob Nation Records (The Tubs, Sniffany & The Nits, PC World), Spike’s debut EP builds on a tradition of idiosyncratic British synth-pop, bringing to mind the cold-yet-intimate work of Rose McDowell and Roger Doyle. As an experimental musician, McLoughlin shape-shifts between dungeon synth, left field trad folk and film scoring. With Spike, McLoughlin fully embraces her talent for pop songcraft, creating high intensity live performances. WATERDEER - Channelling the spirit of early 90s Too Pure bands like Laika and the haunting magnetism of Weyes Blood, Waterdeer blend ethereal vocal melodies, downtempo rhythms, and dream pop inflections to craft a sound that wouldn't have been out of place on the final season of Twin Peaks. Existing somewhere in the liminal space between Italy, Finland and Essex, they have been simultaneously doing this for a while but also not very long at all. ROSEY PM - Rosey PM is a singer/songwriter/musician from rural North Yorkshire, now based in London. She has spent the last 7 years shapeshifting, making lunch and trying on different musical hats; performing and releasing heartfelt and hilarious soulful bangers alongside the Blancmange Lounge collective. Inspired by nature, confusion, Ween, and the melody of daily happenings. Presented by Bad Vibrations 18+ only (photo ID required)
