California Crooners Club music review: Crooners in full swing
Hugh Sheridan and co present a playful set full of romance and fun

The strum of a chord. The sharp beat of the drums. Keys pressed in anticipation. The band is ready for the California Crooners Club to take to the stage. It’s been six years since they’ve been together in Adelaide and now it’s time for Hugh Sheridan, alongside the returning Gabe Roland and Emile Welman, to bring their snazziest show yet to the cheery surroundings of Gluttony’s Flamingo.
The show promises an evening of romance and fun, with ever-smooth live vocals from some of the most celebrated crooners around. It’s a charming surprise every time they step into the lyrics of their next song and their range means they can bounce with complete ease through their set, from reimagining Billy Joel’s ‘Uptown Girl’, all the way to ‘For Good’ of Wicked fame. For every song there’s a bit of crowd interaction, each Crooner down for a twirl or a selfie as they navigate through the bouncing audience. Their rendition of Olivia Dean's ‘Man I Need’ is an absolute highlight, but it seems there’s nothing they can’t do: every second of is ripe with soul and the joy they get from their craft.
Family-friendly and built for feeding the heart, you’ll dance your way out: California Crooners Club is back, and evidently not a moment too soon.
California Crooners Club continues at The Flamingo at Gluttony until March 9.
