Lash Out circus review: Fierce and fearless performance

Lash Out is an all-female circus cabaret that leans hard into spectacle, attitude and raw talent. If you’re looking for a tightly threaded narrative, you might leave a little hungry, but the performers are so outrageously skilled that the lack of narrative quickly becomes a footnote.

What Lash Out delivers in spades is talent that pushes beyond the realms of possibility. The line-up moves through hoops, trapeze, fire, swords and even bubbles (yes, bubbles), each act twisting familiar circus skills into something that feels fresh and inventive. Rather than repeating standard tricks, each brings their own signatures to the stage, approaching their disciplines with creativity, fearless flair and their own artistic identity. Costumes and apparatus are carefully matched to each act’s style, creating moments that feel visually polished and almost sculptural. One minute the stage is a swirl of steel and muscle, the next it’s delicate and playful.

There are a few minor technical moments along the way. At times the sound mix made the host a little difficult to hear clearly, but it’s a small detail that’s easily smoothed out. Special mention must go to Sian’s fire act. Smoking hot and effortlessly smooth, it crackles with confidence and control, turning flames into an extension of the body. It’s the kind of act that makes the audience collectively lean forward: equal parts danger, beauty and pure showmanship.

Gemima on silks also commands the room, quite literally taking the audience’s breath away. Each climb, drop and suspension pulls gasps from the crowd before leaving them hanging in suspense in a spectacular display of strength and grace that lingers in the mind long after the final pose.

Lash Out is It’s a generous, high-energy showcase of skill, personality and audacious performance. Its core is undeniable: powerhouse performers doing extraordinary things. It’s bold, fierce and unapologetically stylish proof that when the talent is this strong, the audience will happily go along for the ride. If you get the chance, don’t hold back: lash out and grab a ticket.

Lash Out concluded at The Vault at Fool’s Paradise on March 9.
