Callaghan of Helensburgh Butchers
This traditional butchershop, with a splendid old-school exterior, manages to thrive in a diminishing world. Age-old butchery skills are well practised at Callaghan’s, bolstered by interesting choices in the production kitchen. Various home-made pies are excellent, from classic steak to Scots twists like chicken curry or cheesy beano. Their sausage specials are big and bold, covering traditionals such as Cumberland and fancier like fiery hot beef or Italian picante. Expect a good selection of straight-up meat cuts and portions, but also more imaginative creations from enthusiastic staff, whether a jambalaya ready meal, Braemar pork fillet (stuffed with black pud, wrapped in bacon) or wagyu x shorthorn brisket burgers.
