Island Gourmet
Head to Sandbraes farm at Whiting Bay on Arran, where one of the region’s most revered growers, former chef Robin Gray, does a daily takeaway dinner service from his back door. His own extensive grown and reared produce, much of which goes to local shops and restaurants, is coupled with uber-fresh seafood for a succinct and regularly changing menu. A fish supper will usually be present, and expect the likes of venison and beef burgers, monkfish curry, lobster pakora, home-cured herring and home-made ice-cream. There is an occasional seasonal table to sit at, or grab a nearby foreshore bench for a vista across to Holy Island. Customers can pick up a veg box with their dinner, and Gray’s chef skills are available to hire for private events.
