Much more a dining pub than a drinking one (it only opens when food’s served), The Loveable Rogue’s dishes are big and bold, and impeccably delivered (the co-owner is a chef). Generally Scots-British with riffs on classics, food ranges from oysters, pork scratchings and Scotch egg to king prawn scampi, cumberland sausage and pies. Tuesdays are ‘date night’ with only a steak and moules frites menu on offer. Their Sunday roast is legendary and grabbed a spot in our tiplist for best in the city thanks to a wee bit of theatre as all the trimmings for the quality Speyside beef, including addictive brisket mac and cheese, come heaved on a chopping board.
