On 2nd May 2015 the 9th/12th Royal Lancers and the Queens Royal Lancers amalgamated to form The Royal Lancers thus uniting the long and proud histories of six original Lancer regiments which date back to 1689. To mark the 10th Anniversary of this historic occasion, The Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeths Own) will explore their achievements of the past decade and look forward to continuing their role as an armoured cavalry regiment in the British Army. As well as an illustrated talk, there will be an opportunity to meet serving members of The Royal Lancers and see some of the star objects from the collections which represent the antecedent Lancer regiments. About The Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeths Own) The Royal Lancers is an armoured cavalry regiment in the British Army. Their antecedent regiments, which include the 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers, 9th (Queens Royal) Lancers, 12th Royal Lancers, 16th Queens Lancers, 17th (The Duke of Cambridges Own) Lancers, 21st(Empress of India's) Lancers, The 16th/5th The Queen's Royal Lancers and 17th/21st Lancers served in the British Armys most significant campaigns and battles including the American War of Independence, Waterloo, the Crimea War, and the First and Second World Wars. Since their formation in 2015, the Regiment has deployed soldiers on Operation Elgin (Bosnia / Kosovo). Operation Tosca, (Cyprus), Operation Orbital (Ukraine), and as part of the NATO Enhanced Presence Battle Group in Poland. The Regiments cap badge is the famous skull and crossbones referred to as The Motto, which represents their motto: 'Death or Glory. This was adopted in memory of General Wolfes death at the Battle of Quebec in 1759. The 9th12th Royal Lancers Museum has been housed in Derby Museum and Art Gallery since 1973.
