190th Birthday Celebrations Sonority Choir in the Chapel

As part of our 190th birthday celebrations, experience a performance of captivating choral music as Sonority Choir, one of Sheffields finest uppervoice ensembles, presents Fire Flowers - a journey of resilience and renewal inspired by the restorative power of natures beauty.
At the heart of the programme isDon Macdonalds powerful song cycleFire Flowers. Taking its title from the delicate wildflowers that bloom on a forest floor after a devastating fire, the work reflects on the astonishing ways life reemerges where hope once seemed impossible. Alongside Macdonalds cycle, the programme features a beautifully set version of Wendell BerrysThe Peace of Wild Thingsand works byReena Esmail, Lydia Samuels, Winnie Brckner, Laura Hawley, andKaterina Gimon.
This evocative concert weaves together music that reflects the everyday challenges we all carry, those quiet, unspoken moments that shape us and the collective calls for social change and the righting of wrongs. It also draws on the healing strength of the natural world: how, in times of overwhelm or uncertainty, we turn instinctively to birdsong, open skies, and quiet forests for comfort and peace. With Fire Flowers, Sonority offers a programme that highlights shared threads of hope, and invites audiences to pause, reflect, and witness the beauty that can rise after even the fiercest storms.
Known for imaginative programming and captivating performances, Sonority Choir brings together exceptional singers to champion innovative music for womens voices. Since its founding in 2019, the ensemble has become recognised for its bold artistic vision, warm choral blend, and emotionally resonant concerts that honour tradition while embracing contemporary expression.
