Music is about communication. It is a kinetic art. Performers need to cultivate rhetoric, the art of persuasion as they shape their interpretations. Musicians need to be conscious of different approaches rhetoric can take as they practise and perform. This lecture will be illustrated with excerpts from a well-loved Haydn Sonata performed by Callum McLachlan.
