A Month of Sundays

Written by Bob Larbey | Directed by Andrew Husband
A bittersweet and beautifully observed comedy, A Month of Sundays takes us inside the walls of a genteel residential care home, where dignity is hard-won and laughter is often the only weapon left.
Cooper, a retired man with a sharp wit and even sharper tongue, has chosen to live in a care home rather than be a burden to his family. His days are brightened by weekly chess games and dry-humoured chats with his fellow resident Aylott the only other person who truly gets him.
As relatives visit and routines roll on, the two men face the indignities of ageing with resilience, sarcasm and just a splash of whisky. What follows is a gently humorous and deeply human story about friendship, independence, and facing lifes final act with courage and grace.
From the writer of The Good Life and As Time Goes By, A Month of Sundays is touching, wry, and quietly powerful.
A moving, funny and heartfelt look at growing older with dignity, defiance and the occasional inappropriate joke.
Content warning: The play includes themes of ageing, illness and references to death. While comedic and compassionate in tone, some elements may not be suitable for younger audiences.
Please note: Doors will open at 7pm for evening performances and 2pm for matinees, to allow our volunteers and cast time to prepare the theatre. If you arrive earlier, you may be asked to wait outside. Thank you for your understanding!
