Abel Selaocoe

South African cellist Abel Selaocoe is redefining the parameters of the cello. He moves seamlessly across genres and styles and combines virtuosic performance with improvisation, singing, and body percussion.
For this performance, Abel will present a rare solo show: a sonically immersive exploration of the musical works which inspire and drive him, using extended techniques and loops to build a layered soundworld of cello and vocals.
Abel is devoted to composing works and curating programmes that highlight the links between Western and non-Western musical traditions, broadening the horizons of classical music to reach a more diverse audience.
Since Abels first show with through the noise, he has regularly performed as part of his trio Chesaba and his quartet The Bantu Ensemble, as well as alongside a 15-piece chamber orchestra. This performance sees Abel return to the solo format for the first time since his debut show with through the noise back in 2021.
