An evening with Dr Michael Walsh in conversation with Nicky Crewe
Join Dr Michael Walsh Ethnomusicologist and celebrated performer of Traditional Irish music with a distinctly Mancunian edge as he marks the completion of his University of Sheffield doctoral research on wooden flute playing and identity in Asturias, northern Spain. In conversation with folklorist and writer Nicky Crewe, he will weave together music, song, and story: growing up in the Manchester Irish community of the 1980s and 1990s, discovering Sheffield and English folk traditions, and tracing how walking the Camino de Santiago led him to the music and culture of Asturias.
The evening concludes with the first Sheffield performance of his new duo, Folkuuuuunst, with English Melodeon ace Will Hampson an uplifting, highenergy journey through music and song from Ireland, England, Asturias, and the wider Celtic world.
This promises to be a fascinating evening of conversation and music with some unexpected twists and turns to the story.
Michael Walsh's album Quarehawk is a great introduction to his music and collaborations.'
Please note this ticket price DOES include a BYOB fee should you wish to bring alcohol to the venue.
All additional purchases of non alcoholic drinks and home baked sweet treats from the cafe counter are always very much appreciated.
