Urubu (Sally Doherty, Paul Kilvington and guest Graham Jones) Urubu is a collective of musicians who share a love for Latin American Music. An evening of songs from South America performed in their original languages of Portuguese and Spanish. Fronted by vocalist Sally Doherty and pianist Paul Kilvington. This gig will also feature our guest Graham Jones on double bass. A fusion of Latin, Jazz and Folk. Sally's musical career has led her into numerous genre and collaborative creative and physical journeys whose influence can sometimes be heard in her performances giving her approach to Latin American song a fresh and original sound. She has released 12 albums (self-penned, Folk, Jazz and Latin) and collaborated on many varied projects which have taken her on tour all over Europe as well as America, Australia and Scandinavia. She has performed live on MTV, BBC radio 1, RAI 1 Italian TV and a multitude of European and USA Radio stations. Her work as a composer has also resulted in writing and performing for BBC TV, BBC Radio 4 Drama and short films. Paul Kilvington was the creator and musical director of Latin Jazz outfit Amazonia who wowed UK Jazz Festival audiences in the 90s. His improvisation skills in a Latin American framework are simply stunning and often unexpected and surprising. His creative output has resulted in numerous albums as a composer and performer and also as a producer. They have performed at Jazz festivals in Manchester, Marlborough, Wigan, Melbourne and some wonderful venues: Davenham Players Theatre, Chester Theatre, The Sands, The Cinnamon Club, Scarborough and Leeds Jazz clubs and of course Jazz at the Lescar. faultless intonation and taste from Sally, sounding equally at home in Portuguese, Spanish and English.
