His written work and performance occupies a space between surrealism, jazz and the rhythms of Caribbean speech and music. His 2022 collection Sonnets for Albert won the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry 2022 and the OCM BOCAS Prize for Caribbean Poetry. He is the author of five poetry collections and three novels. As a musician, he has released nine critically acclaimed albums. The most recent, Rowing up River to Get our Names Back was released in February, with a second volume due in December 2025.
