The Piper is incredibly honoured to announce that as part of our 4th Birthday celebrations, we have Brazilian Tropicália legends OS MUTANTES performing at The Piper on Friday 30th June. This is HUGE!!! Originally formed in 1966, Os Mutantes (meaning the mutants in Portuguese) was at the forefront of the groundbreaking Brazilian underground Tropicália scene that mixed the bossa and samba sounds of Brazil with the psychedelic rock and soul of artists like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Sly & The Family Stone. Along with fellow Brazillian figures like Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, Os Mutantes was one of the most well-known and influential rock bands in Brazil. Their now-acclaimed self-titled debut album is considered a classic that Mojo magazine placed at #12 in its list of '50 Most Out-There Albums of All Time'. Os Mutantes' fanbase includes many notable artists including David Byrne, Beck, and even Kurt Cobain. After initially disbanding in 1978, Os Mutantes reformed in 2006 to perform at The Barbican and, since then, have performed their tropical grooves, fuzzed-out guitars, and psychedelic pop harmonies on the world’s festival and theatre stages. To have them perform an intimate club show at The Piper will be a truly incredible and unforgettable experience!
