The event pays homage to Mozart's comic operas through Busoni's beloved 'Lustspiel Overture' blending Mozartian drama and overflowing melody with high-romantic orchestration. Bellini's Bel Canto opera 'Norma,' set in Roman Gaul, shares the stage with Mendelssohn's 'Italian Symphony', inspired by his travels through Italy in 1831. The symphony beautifully encapsulates the Mediterranean art, architecture and landscapes that left a lasting impression on Mendelssohn during his journey.
