Beethoven Night with National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine

Beethoven Coriolan Overture
Beethoven Piano Concerto No 5 in E flat major ‘Emperor’
Beethoven Symphony No 7 in A major
Volodymyr Sirenko, conductor
Maria Pukhlianko, piano
We welcome back the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine for an evening of fabulous music. No one knows how the Emperor came by its name, but it is entirely apposite for the prince among concertos. It is on a massive scale and provides some of the most exhilarating writing for solo piano in the repertory. It also includes a beautiful slow movement which was featured in the score of The King’s Speech. Beethoven’s 7th Symphony is one of the best loved of all. With its haunting slow movement, sparkling scherzo and electric finale it opens with a movement described by Wagner as ‘the apotheosis of dance’.
