Blues, Boogie & Swing Special featuring two of Jools Holland's saxophonists
Sax stars Derek Nash and Phil Veacock have collectively notched up over 50 years of boogie with the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra and bring you a show full of swing, blues and grooves, going toe-to-toe for your approval alongside the all-star rhythm section of Denny Ilett (guitar), Jim Watson (organ) and George Double (drums). Saxophonist Phil Veacock is best-known as the main arranger, musical director and tenor saxophonist of Jools Hollands Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. In this role he has arranged for and played with practically everyone of note in popular music from Paul McCartney to Barry White from Elvis Costello to Kylie Minogue. Derek Nash is one of the busiest freelancers on the UK music scene. A multi award-winning bandleader, instrumentalist and composer, he has been with the Jools Holland R & B Orchestra for nineteen years and delights audiences around the world with his infectious and soulful performances. Denny Ilett is the founder & former director of the Bristol International Jazz & Blues festival and his Electric Lady big band explores the music of Jimi Hendrix, regularly selling out at Ronnie Scott's. Jim Watson's CV includes stints with the Jazz/Funk bands Incognito, Brand New Heavies and US3, with US artists Lalo Schifrin, Patti Austin and James Moody, the BBC Radio Big Band, Katie Melua (with whom he toured for 5 years) and most recently Manu Katch. George Double's freelance credits include Dame Shirley Bassey, Grammy Award-winner Jack Jones & Mica Paris.
