Capturing Movement In Linocut with Lisa Takahashi

Capturing Movement In Linocut with Lisa Takahashi
How do you evoke a sense of movement in a linocut printed image? During this workshop you'll be producing one colour linocuts that capture movement. Drawing inspiration from the Grosvenor School and the Vorticists in particular, this workshop will focus on creating images that communicate a sense of motion. You will explore how drawing, collage and stencilling techniques can be used to develop compositional ideas. Once you have a design you're happy with, you'll be shown how to transfer your image to lino. Then, you'll be guided through the cutting, inking and printing stages, and consider how certain cut marks, colour choices and ways of inking can help to enhance the visual impact of your idea. You'll have the opportunity to see how using a Victorian printing press creates a different quality of print to the results achieved when printing by hand. By the end of the workshop, you will have made an exciting new A5 linocut print and a head full of ideas of what you could print next!
