Charlie Chaplin's Christmas Cinema - Film Score LIVE!
This event has been archived!

Following their 5 star and sold-out show in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe,
Moonlight Concert Productions have imagined a new Christmas show inspired by the first Christmas films ever made, New York jazz piano improv, and our great British tradition of Christmas carolling.
Step back into the golden age of Hollywood as our acclaimed cinema pianist Matthew Shiel improvises a film score for the oldest silent Christmas films ever made - LIVE! During the silent film era from 1890-1930, cinemas employed pianists to improvise (i.e. create music on the spot) to accompany the moving images. Gather your friends and family, travel back in time to the dawn of cinema, and enjoy an unforgettable night of magical festive entertainment!
Tonight's programme is directed by Disney illustrator and Shanghai artist Emma Yitong Shen and features several short Christmas films including the original A Christmas Carol (1910) and Santa Claus (1898) - the oldest surviving Christmas movie ever made! All our films are over a century old and offer a delightful glimpse into a bygone world.
Mulled wine and mince pies will be served in the interval. Merry Christmas!
