Cookie Cutters: An Intro to Tinsmithing

Cookie Cutters: An Intro to Tinsmithing
About this event

Following on from a Heritage Crafts Association masterclass led by Master Tinsmith Karl Schmidt; this introductory course, led by our amazing Workshop Technician Arthur Scott, will take you through the basics of tinplate working to assemble your very own custom cookie cutter.

Working in the Museum of Making Workshop, you will learn a variety of techniques using basic tinsmiths tools, including cutting, creasing, forming and soldering to shape and assemble the tinplate.

Tinsmithing is on the Heritage Crafts Association Red List of Critically Endangered Crafts, classed as those that are at serious risk of no longer being practised in the UK.

You will also discover fascinating connections to Derby Museums collections of making, which chart the progress of Derbys ongoing manufacturing history and the people who were involved.
