Craft Sunday: Shibori Silk Scarves with Syrah Jay

Local maker Syrah Jay is back to share the secrets of Shibori and this time we’ll be creating silk scarves in many different colours.
Shibori is a Japanese manual resist dyeing technique, which produces patterns on fabric. Dating back to the 8th century, the most customary colour that used was indigo, an intensely rich shade of blue. Modern day Shibori uses a variety of colours and in this workshop you will get to experiment with a complementary palette as well as the traditional indigo.
Join Syrah and learn how to make your own shibori silk scarf by folding, twisting and stitching your fabric to create a unique piece of wearable art.
You’ll also have the opportunity to make some textile jewellery using indigo dyed cord, beads and simple knotting techniques.
As always, we’ll have plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits to help fuel your making during this fun afternoon.
