Cycling book launch: Michael Hutchinson in conversation
Michael Hutchinson launches his latest book, Further, exploring the strange world of extreme endurance cyclists. The book is a follow-up to Michael's three previous much-loved cycling best-sellers: The Hour (about the history of cycling’s Hour Record and Michael's own part in it); Faster (about the science of speed); and Re:Cyclists (a history of cycling). A 56-times British time-trial champion and longtime Cycling Weekly columnist, Michael is steeped in cycling culture - but spending two years among the ultra-distance community immersed him in a new world. Are his new compadres inspirational or unhinged - or both? How would Michael fare himself, having to take on a challenge that would burn 14,000 calories in 24-hours? 'Further' shows us inside a unique part of sport, with Michael's trademark mix of laidback wit, crisp observation and accessible explanations of complex science. In a full evening of cycling chat, Michael will also reflect on his World Hour record attempts and his coaching of Alex Dowsett's World Hour record attempt - and the story of discovering his talent for cycling in his early 20s then going on to win multiple British title by the age of 30. Michael will be discussing the book with former Procycling magazine writer Duncan Steer. There will be a chance to ask your own questions
