Deptford Dub Club

We’re staging a FREE, full family friendly, outdoor, afternoon session, in the glorious, extensive garden. This promises to be a real historical event as it features the legendary Neville King on the wheels of steel. The renowned producer and soundsystem operator was born in St. James, Jamaica. Neville’s soundsystem had long residencies across south London during the 70s. In those days he was a mentor to David Rodigan, Levi Roots and Blacker Dread. Neville King launched his own labels in London in 1976 and quickly struck gold. Mr King was also one of the instigators of Lovers Rock, releasing many of his own production in the genre. “Be Thankful” by One Blood has assumed classic status.
Throughout our resident Sing-jay, the mighty Doc Murdoc will be on hand to nice-up the dance. The inimitable Doctor will need no introduction to many, as he is a stalwart of the London Reggae scene. He and the club’s resident selector, Soft Wax, recently supported Black Uhuru and together they’ve grace many of the capital’s stages and far beyond. For this night they will be joined by the D.D.C.s recently augmented live horn section. Now a 3 piece, including Club favourites Natty and Tombone.
Early on we’ll be graced by a set from Club stalwart Natty Nick. Nick is revered amongst club regulars for his lovingly selected blends of Ska, Rocksteady and early Reggae. We may well see some special guests too. Plus stalls and food including Caribbean Catering.
Presented by The Fox & Firkin.
