Durufl : Requiem

Durufl : Requiem
Worcester Festival Choral Society opens its 2025-26 concert season with a stunning programme of major choral and orchestral works. The beautiful, ethereal 1947 Requiem by French composer Maurice Durufl is his best-known piece, and one of the finest works in the choral repertoire. Blending Gregorian chant with the rich harmonies of French impressionistic music, this free-flowing, luscious Requiem is an unforgettable musical experience that speaks to the soul. The concert also offers an unmissable orchestral treat a performance of Sir Edward Elgars beloved Enigma Variations , whose 14 short musical portraits include the supremely emotional Nimrod. Complementing this musical feast are Joseph Haydns sparkling 18th century choral motet, Insanae et Vanae Curae , and Lili Boulangers 1917 Vieille Prire Bouddhique (Old Buddhist Prayer), a richly dramatic piece filled with exotic mysticism. Appearing alongside the 150 voices of Worcester Festival Choral Society will be internationally acclaimed soloists and the superb Meridian Sinfonia orchestra. Conducted by director of music Samuel Hudson, the concerts magnificent Worcester Cathedral setting adds the perfect finishing touch.
