Epic Art 25 & Creative Voices, Activist Voices: Sensory Stories of Creative Communities
Creative Voices, Activist Voices: Sensory Stories of Creative Communities This exhibition presents findings from a research project funded by Centre for Cultural Value and jointly led by Fun Palaces and sociologist Dr Katy Pilcher. Together they investigated whether communities who make creative and cultural experiences for themselves also create ways to have their needs heard. The research highlights that when communities come together across social divides to share knowledge and create cultural value while also exploring how cultural participation can unlock wider civic activism, as well as the barriers and social inequalities preventing this from happening. The exhibition presents research findings through stories, photographs and objects shared by those who participated in the research project, bringing to life the experiences of Fun Palaces Makers from across the UK and where their Fun Palaces have led. Epic Art: The Taste of Culture Artists of all ages and backgrounds were invited to explore how food reflects the values, traditions, and identities of cultures around the world. From cherished family recipes to festive meals, street food to ceremonial feasts, these artworks celebrate the powerful role food plays in bringing people together. We hope these creative interpretations inspire you to reflect on your own cultural connections to food. Browse the Epic Art artworks in the venue before Monday 28 July to vote for your favourite. Winners will be announced at our prize-giving ceremony on Sat 02 August.
