Giggleswick Railway Circle: Around the UK in Classic Railway Posters with Jane Ellis

The golden age of the railway poster was probably between the wars, but the poster as we know it evolved from humble beginnings in the 19th century, and improved with advancements in colour printing, before declining with the formation of British Railways. The railway companies used the skills of well-known artists of the day to create the posters, and we shall see many examples of their work.
Speaker Jane Ellis is actively involved with the Industrial History Section of Yorkshire Archaeological & Historical Society, and has been running the Yorkshire branch of the Railway Ramblers Club for over 25 years.
Giggleswick Railway Circle (GRC) is a voluntary group that holds regular meetings for anyone interested in railways. So, if are you interested in:
- Past, present and future railway operations
- Locomotives and rolling stock
- Railway buildings, track and signalling
- Railway photography
- A history of railway lines and their communities
then come along to our meetings!
Normally our meetings are held at 10.30 on the 4th Wednesday monthly, but please check the diary before travelling.
GRC is not a club; all are welcome to the meetings, and there is no subscription or membership needed. Refreshments are included in the admission charge.
