Glasgow Chamber Choir - The Blue Bird

Glasgow Chamber Choir - The Blue Bird
Glasgow Chamber Choir invites you to an evening of choral music that drifts between stillness and flight. At the heart of the programme is The Blue Bird by Charles Villiers Stanford — a work of exquisite restraint and luminous beauty, evoking the silent arc of a bird over water. Alongside this, the serene polyphony of Palestrina offers a glimpse into the clarity and poise of Renaissance choral tradition. In dialogue with these classical voices are works by three leading female composers of our time: Judith Weir, Judith Bingham, and Sally Beamish. Their music brings contemporary colour, poetry, and emotional depth — expanding the concert’s theme of reflection, air, and light. With a current membership of around 30 singers, Glasgow Chamber choir was founded in 1994 and has developed into one of Scotland’s finest amateur choirs. Directed since 2005 by Michael Bawtree, its repertoire spans the Renaissance to the present day and has included the Scottish premieres of works by James Whitbourn, Hans Gál, Jan Dismas Zelenka, Richard Bush and Judith Bingham
