Grieg Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16
Sibelius Symphony no. 5 in E flat, Op. 52
Selected as one of the first Tabor Piano Ambassadors for the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition, representing the Royal College of Music, Amiri Harewood regularly performs across the UK and abroad.
In this concert we head to Scandinavia for an evening of artic wonder: Grieg’s ever-popular Piano Concerto - described by Rachmaninoff as ‘the greatest piano concerto ever written’ - is filled with passion and beauty.
The inspirational theme of the final movement of Sibelius’s Symphony no. 5 came into the composers mind while he was climbing in the mountains of Finland. He saw 16 swans pass over him in flight and wrote in this diary ‘this was the greatest day of my life.’
Come and be inspired by this programme of great romance, conducted by our Principal Guest Conductor George Jackson.
