Guest Talk: All about Pantomime

Guest Talk: All about Pantomime
The St Giles with St Marys Pantomime Society in Pontefract has been making people laugh for 75 years. Founded in 1949, the society has enchanted generations of Pomfretians with time-honoured stories, told by larger-than-life characters in gorgeous costumes. Over the years they have built a remarkable history, archive and costume collection. Join Jo Sykes, long-time member, performer and producer for the society, as she talks about all things pantomime. Find out more about the history of the society and see mementoes and costume items in this engaging talk. After the talk there will be a chance to ask more questions, and explore the Oh Yes it Is Exhibition on display in Pontefract Museum. Jo has been a member of the Society since she was 11 years old. She played a variety of roles including principal girls, fairies, baddies and particularly enjoyed being Queen Rat with her Ratlings in Dick Whittington in 2022. As well as performing in the Society, as both a child and an adult, she was the Societies Secretary for 23 years. In January 2017 Jo produced her first pantomime for the Society Sleeping Beauty. Whilst her first love will always be performing, she does enjoy bringing the show together and is looking forward sharing with you some of the joy of Pantomime and hopes you may have memories to share as well.
