Infant Tree Presents: Angle (Jean-Luc Guionnet & Jean-Philippe Gross), Breathing Heavy, Laaraa
Angle is an improvising duo of Jean-Luc Guionnet, alto saxophonist, organiser, and electroacoustic composer and Jean-Philippe Gross, who performs using a custom-built acoustic feedback system. https://tanzprocesz.bandcamp.com/album/angle With ANGLE, we put our trust in the possible rejuvenation of the relationship binding electrical and acoustic instruments and their relationship to a transmission system. There is a part of immeasurable between the two, and this is something that we not only accept, but we want to deepen this divide to see what stays before starting off from what is left, which will indicate the direction we need to take, whether it be a cut, interaction, non-reaction, exaggerated guards, or pause at the worse possible moment. The experience is one to endlessly recommence. What is left should endlessly be re-evaluated. We depend on the situation as much as we can, as we are thus working on this dependency. When the research is made to music, when protocols are awakened by a situation, when relationships are organised according to that which is supposed to muddle them, a hairy forest of hertz that sometimes resembles the most arid of deserts, a grey over grey that encompasses as many rainbows as we want the opposite Breathing Heavy are the saxophone and sampler duo of Sam Andreae and Ciaran Mackle. Myriad interweaving woodwind lines whirl and reel in convulsive fashion, overlapping patterns weave and dance like reflected light from water, and a dizzying array of motifs are conjured and discarded as if the pair were concerned about leaving any scrap of energy unspent. All the listener need do is to simply bask in the joyful tumult. Andreae's alto saxophone playing ranges widely from fluttering trills and an almost whinnying lyricism, to hefty squalls that seem to revel in a raw physicality. Alongside this (around, over, under, through), Mackle creates a densely swirling cataract of stuttering, tumbling sonic fragments that continuously reflect the entire entity back on itself like a collapsing hall of mirrors. Based in London, Laaraa is an interdisciplinary artist who works with generative audiovisuals, sound, machine learning/AI, video, painting, drawing, writing, and installation. A fascination with the intricacies of human connections to the body and the complexity of memory drives a curiosity that considers the relationship of humans and materiality to time, space, and technology. Through her practice, Lara is interested in aspects of existence and how our interactions with others, space, time, and environment shape our experiences. https://posthumxn.me/
