Jake McKelvie has travelled the DIY touring circuit in the US and UK for over a decade, carving out a niche for himself as a songwriter and performer. Known for his "stream of self-consciousness and world weary lyricism, he keeps audiences engaged both as a solo performer or with his newly minted backing band, the New Old Band". His most recent album A New Kind of Hat came out in 2024 and has been touring to support it since.

He has been featured on Americana UK, WFMU, Daytrotter, No Depression and has opened for acts like AJJ, Jeffrey Lewis, Clem Snide, Jeff Rosenstock and Steve Forbert.
