Jasper Høiby's '3Elements'

Xavi Torres (Piano), Jasper Høiby (Bass), Naima Acuña (Drums)
Jasper Høiby's trio 3Elements stands as one of Europe's most compelling contemporary piano trios around. His new album 'Conversations of Hope', to be released on Edition Records in March 2026, featuring Naima Acuña on drums and Xavi Torres on piano, captures a band working at full intensity.
The sound is physical and fast-moving, with a melodic and bold, bass-driven sound that highlights Høiby's knack for enthralling musical synergy. They use shifting time signatures and a shared instinct for when to push and when to leave space.
Acuña's driving, detailed drumming and Torres' clear, harmonically rich piano language meet Høiby's bass-led writing in music that feels urgent, open and deeply connected.
Høiby first emerged internationally as the founder of Phronesis, the influential trio formed in 2005 that reshaped expectations of the piano trio through a balance of structure, risk and collective momentum. Across a decade of touring and acclaimed releases, Phronesis established Høiby as a composer and bandleader with a strong sense of form and narrative. That experience feeds directly into 3Elements, alongside his work with Planet B and Fellow Creatures, as he continues to develop projects centred on interaction, energy and forward-thinking ensemble writing.
3Elements features a revolving line-up of some of Europe's best emerging talent. The new 2025/6 trio line-up will feature the exceptional talents of Torres & Acuña. Both from Spain, both are some of the most in-demand musicians of their generation, playing in several high calibre projects across the world.
Xavi Torres in particular is a pinaist of real note, he has a stellar future
"3Elements" thus offers an uncompromising and robust sound palette, which recalls the groove of Phronesis while being distinguished by the richness of the charismatic and unique sound of Høiby's bass." - Radio France
"Jasper Høiby has internationally been one of the most dangerous Danish jazz names to break through internationally in the last decade. That Høiby to an unusual degree has a philosophical streak and an ambition to play a part in the social debate, helps to distinguish his projects from the rest of the Nordic wave. Høiby will not only indulge with his naturally lyrical bass sound, but also poke, prod and provoke reaction and reflection." - Kim Skotte, POLITIKEN
