Celtic Connections proudly presents Josef Akin. Glasgow-based pianist, keyboardist, and composer Josef Akin presents his brilliant jazz-funk album, Flightcase. Lauded as “one of the best jazz recordings of the year” by DJ TJ Gorton, it channels influences such as Sun Ra and Herbie Hancock, as well as Amara and GABO – the other bands Akin plays with. Expect to be immersed in music by a talented array of vocalists and instrumentalists. Whether on flute, trumpet, guitar, bass, sax, horn or keyboards, balafon, keyboards and percussion, each musician gives vent to their own creativity – something Akin says felt particularly important during the album’s lockdown-era genesis. The result is an unpredictable, but predictably wonderful, show.
