Finally got L.R.Phoenix's If the Devil Sang the Blues. I put it on to do art to, had to stop because it's blowing my mind, it's conjured up an image in my mind; I'm sitting on a porch swing on the Mississippi delta, there's an alligator crossing my lawn as I sit in the sweet warm summer evening, sipping on a jack, whilst smelling the honeysuckle vine. In the church down the road I can hear Preacher L.R. Phoenix giving a sermon. He's bellowing out stories that have got the congregation on the edge of their seats. He's preaching The Blues about the devil, Po'black Mattie and the Red Cross store, I'm about to head on over to the church and catch the rest of his sermon, twenty one prayers of song in a tradition as old as America itself and I gotta ask him, man are you Chester's brother because damn, when you sing, he's born again.
