Len Pennie and Peter Mackay: Celebrating Scotlands Languages
Following the granting of official status for the Gaelic and Scots languages in June of this year, join us for an afternoon of lively readings and discussion with two of Scotlands best-known poets working in these languages. Our new national Scottish Makar, Gaelic poet Pdraig MacAoidh (Peter Mackay), is joined by Scots-language sensation Len Pennie, hot off the release of her second poetry collection, Poyums Annaw.

Peter Mackay is a poet, broadcaster, translator. He lectures in the School of English at the University of St Andrews and in 2024 was appointed Scottish Makar.

Len Pennie is a poet who writes in both Scots and English. She writes passionately about the promotion of minoritised languages, survivors of domestic abuse and the destigmatisation of mental illness. Her debut collection, Poyums, was an instant Sunday Times bestseller, and was named both the Scots Book o the Year at the Scots Language Award, and Discover Book of the Year at the British Book Awards.
