Light UP Warsash Advanced presents The Trials
A searing courtroom drama that puts the climate crisis, and generational accountability, centre stage confronting the climate crisis head-on — and asks the audience to consider their own complicity. The Trials is set in a chillingly near-future world grappling with the devastating impacts of climate change. With resources scarce and temperatures soaring, justice takes a radical new form: adults who contributed to climate change now face trial. In this dystopian society, the older generation stands trial for their environmental negligence, judged by a jury of young people. As each defendant pleads their case, the young jurors must decide: do these people deserve forgiveness, or punishment? Are they victims of a broken system, or architects of destruction? The play delves deep into themes of justice, responsibility, and the urgent need for environmental action. Harrowing, provocative, and eerily plausible, the play demands a reckoning — and asks: What would you have done?
