Live - June 11 - Is Pluto a Planet? - Jerry Stone

In January 2006, NASA launched the New Horizons spacecraft, to become the first ever to fly by the most distant planet - Pluto.
However, later that year, at the IAC conference in Prague, a vote was taken which re-classified Pluto and other objects as Dwarf Planets. This created a huge controversy among astronomers and the general public, and - mostly due to a failure to make any update since then - the argument continues to this day.
But does it need to? Is there not a simple and straight-forward answer?
This summer marks the 10th anniversary of New Horizons reaching Pluto, and to mark the occasion, Jerry Stone is presenting Is Pluto A Planet?.
Instead of giving his personal views on the matter, he examines in detail the IAC definition of a planet - and as a result he comes up with a definitive answer to the question.
This is Jerrys most controversial presentation, and includes some material that one professional astronomer has told him he should not be saying!
Jerry is a Freelance Space Presenter who runs Spaceflight UK and has given presentations on astronomy and space exploration for over 50 years. He has spoken at all kinds of major venues, including the Royal Institution, the Palace of Westminster and the Royal Observatory at Greenwich. His work has been recognised by NASA, and he is referred to as One of the leading speakers on space exploration.
