Lodestar Trio

Lodestar Trio
Lodestar: Folk-Baroque Trio blends Scandinavian Strings - Sunday 11th January 2026 at 7pm Lodestar Trio is a ground-breaking new collaboration between stars of the Scandinavian folk scene Erik Rydvall and Olav Mjelva, and British virtuoso Max Baillie. Together they hone a spirit of groove and improvisation through Baroque music by bringing it into a folk sound-world where the Swedish nyckelharpa and the Norwegian hardanger fiddle meet the violin. With renewed interpretations of baroque classics (Bach, Lully, Couperin), folk tunes and new compositions, they push the boundaries of their mystical and magical Scandinavian string instruments. The trio skilfully showcase the dexterity of each instrument, bringing out new qualities, whilst paying tribute to the roots of a much-honoured musical period. The trios music is born where Folk and Baroque meet. Together they rediscover the music of Bach and other Baroque composers with the spirit of improvisation, and the groove of a folk fiddle band. Amongst this repertoire they interweave traditional folk tunes and original pieces, celebrating the three distinct sibling voices of their instruments. They have played live on the BBC, have been featured on Classic Fm and Norwegian national radio, and released their debut album for the Naxos label in the Summer of 2022. Tickets: Advance Adults 24.00, (on the door on the night they will cost 28) Under 25 years 5.00 Children are welcome if, like adults, they can sit quietly and enjoy the music.
