London Firebird Orchestra: Grieg with Marc - Northern Lights and Legends

Firebirds popular season-closing summer concert takes us to the Fjords and Forests of Scandinavia with two of the most eternally-beloved cornerstones of the Romantic orchestral repertoire. Rachmaninoff described Griegs masterpiece of a piano concerto as the greatest piano concerto ever written high praise! But its easy to see why as Norwegian folk dances play alongside gloriously romantic melodies and huge crashing chords, a captivating cadence and moments of exquisite beauty. Sibeliuss rousing Second Symphony never fails to delight. Evoking the grandeur of the lakes and mountains of his native Finland, This work culminates in the fourth movements most nobly brave and all-time-favourite themes. Artistic Director Marc Corbett Weaver makes his annual appearance as piano soloist with George Jackson as conductor.
