Mad Professor + Big Youth + Abakush
Legends of Dub, Roots, and Revolution: Mad Professor, Big Youth & AbaKush From the echo chambers of London to the sound systems of Kingston and the global stage of reggae fusion, Mad Professor, Big Youth, and AbaKush represent three pillars of dub and conscious music across generations. Mad Professor-the pioneering British dub producer, engineer, and remixer-is revered for bringing futuristic innovation to roots reggae. Known for his collaborations with icons like Lee "Scratch" Perry, Sly and Robbie, and Horace Andy, he’s also pushed dub beyond genre boundaries, remixing the likes of Massive Attack, Sade, Grace Jones, and The Orb. Big Youth (Manley Augustus Buchanan) stands as one of reggae’s original voices of the people. A groundbreaking Jamaican deejay, his 1970s rise gave voice to the streets through the unfiltered power of sound systems. AbaKush, the powerful female-led collective formed in 1981, merged roots reggae with jazz, gospel, and soca. Founded by lead vocalist Denise “Jena” Davis, the group’s name-‘Abbah’ (Father) and ‘Kush’ (Africa)-signals their deep cultural vision. Together, these three acts embody the sound of resistance, resilience, and rhythm-each carving out their own legacy in the vibrant story of global reggae and dub. Presented by The Fox & Firkin.
