Mantis Ensemble

Mantis Ensemble is a new Edinburgh based nu-jazz project from drummer Scott Jamieson. Drawing on originalcompositions developed and refined through a range of musical collaborations, the project brings his works into a dynamic trio setting with a strong focus on groove and electronic textures. The trio made their debut at the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival 2025, performing to a sold-out audience.
Scott Jamieson is an Edinburgh-based drummer originally from Aberdeenshire. After graduating from Edinburgh Napier University, he was drawn in by the local late-night jazz funk scene and cut his teeth playing a weekly residency at The Jazz Bar, whilst also working as a freelance musician and educator. After being a hired gun and sideman with many projects, artists and bands over the years, he decided to start his own project in late 2024, inviting bassist Tom Wilkinson and pianist Michael Watson to his studio for a jam - eventually forming Mantis Ensemble. Alongside leading the project, Scott continues to work as a freelance musician and is a music instructor at schools across Edinburgh City and Scottish Borders Council.
