Mathematics masterclasses - Summer 2025

The Mathematics Masterclass is designed to cater to the most able Year 5 mathematicians who have a real interest in the subject.
The sessions are problem-solving orientated, engaging pupils in tasks such as code breaking, shape transformation and numerical puzzles. By using a mixture of discovery learning and ICT we aim to stretch the pupils mathematical thinking rather than teach them new material.
Children will require no prior knowledge beyond the National Curriculum. The free Masterclasses will run on the following Saturdays and children must be available to attend all 6 sessions within their chosen programme:
Week 1
Saturday 26 April
Introductory briefing for parents/guardians and children (15mins)
Class: Coding
Week 2
Saturday 3 May
Class: Probability
Week 3
Saturday 10 May
Class: Binary number system
Week 4
Saturday 17 May
Class: Maths challenge
Break for Kimbolton School half term.
Week 5
7 June
Class: Round Robin of activities
Week 6
14 June
Class: Menger
Followed by Final Certificate Presentation.
Each session runs for one hour.
Mathematics A (Aragon)
Week 1: Introductory briefing at 0900-0915 followed by class session 0915-1015
Week 2,3,4, & 5: Class 0900-1000
Week 6: Class 0900-1000 followed by Final Certificate Presentation at 1000-1030
Mathematics B (Popham)
Week 1: Introductory briefing at 1045-1100 followed by class session 1100-1200
Week 2,3,4, & 5: Class 1030-1130
Week 6: Class 1030-1130 followed by Final Certificate Presentation at 1130-1200
The deadline for applications is Friday, 18 April, 2025, at which point we will close all bookings.
You only need to book one ticket for your child. To ensure fair access for all, please register your child for one subject only. If you are interested in an additional session, you are welcome to join the waiting list and we will be in touch if any spaces become available.
