THE TRUTH ABOUT FRANK
At The Fox & Newt, Friday 11th Jul 2025, 7:30 PM
BORIS DONKSON
Boris Donkson explores the musicality of everyday sound through a musique concrètelens, recontextualizing noise, speech, and found audio. Based in northern England, he brings electroacoustic work to pubs, clubs, and DIY venuesbridging underground culture with experimental practice.
A mature student turned sonic artist, Donkson studied Music Production (B.A.) and Sonic Art (M.A.) at Leeds Beckett University, reigniting a deep interest in early electronic music. His compositions often feature spoken word and have been featured in concerts, installations, and poetry podcasts.
Donkson continues to blur the line between formal and informal performance spacesworking across sound, text, and mixed media to challenge where and how experimental music is experienced.
MATTROBSON
Mattrobsons creative practice positions itself in the place where the more musical and melodic end of electronica attempts to lock horns with more experimental processes. Robson studied MA Music Technology at The Music Research Centre at The University of York but has also rattled the drums for many an indie rock band.
From this personal creative history Robson hopes to invoke a purely flat-landscape with regard to musical value. From this, his releases can vacillate between post-ambient melancholy, through to early 00s inspired prog electronica and post-classical piano workouts, through to systems driven rhythmic gymnastics. All held together in such a way, that the dance floor, can somewhere be sensed, albeit through a cracked telescopic lens, very very far way.
Structure and deconstruction are celebrated in equal amounts. Classic era Warp heads and fans of post-electro rhythmic exploration will find much to enjoy here.
THE TRUTH ABOUT FRANK
Living under the fevered transmissions of the Cookridge Tower, as all manner of capitalisms death throes are vomited through the airwaves at Leeds highest altitude, Tinshills finest destructor general of drone and noise, Alan Edwards, brings his sound adventures to Measured Lag under the Truth About Frank moniker. Desolate fields of disembodied tone actors vie for the privilege of expiring on a bleak stage of post-humanity, whilst detached drums are occasional coerced into focus, amidst a post-everything hellscape.
Noise-heads and drone enthusiasts are encouraged early doors to catch Edwardss IPad mangling exploits.
ENTRY
