As part of this years National Crime Reading Month we are welcoming members of the Murder Squad, a collective of Northern crime writers, to our libraries. On Thursday the 12th June at 7pm join us to meet Cath Staincliffe and Chris Simms at Brighouse Library to hear about their writing and inspiration and pick up a signed copy of their newest books! Cath Staincliffe: Best-selling novelist, TV and radio scriptwriter. She created ITV's hit series, Blue Murder. Her debut Looking For Trouble launched private eye Sal Kilkenny, a single parent juggling work and home, onto Manchesters mean streets, first in an eight book series. Caths stand-alone novels tell stories of ordinary families caught up in extraordinary events, giving voice to victims, the bereaved, survivors and witnesses. Fire On The Fells, out now, is the second in her Detectives Donovan and Young series set in the stunning landscape of the Yorkshire Dales. Cath has been short-listed six times for the prestigious CWA Dagger Awards, winning the Short Story Dagger in 2012. Cath was joint winner of the WGGB Best Radio Drama Award 2019 for Stone S7. Running Out Of Road was short-listed for the eDunnit best novel Award at CrimeFest 2022. The Fells was shortlisted for the Peoples Book Prize. Chris Simms: Along with several nominations for the Crime Writers Association Daggers (for his novels and short stories) and the Theakstons Crime Novel of the Year award, Chris was selected by Waterstones as one of their 25 Authors For The Future. The idea for his debut novel, Outside the White Lines, came to him in the early hours of the morning while broken down on the hard shoulder of the M40. His series of DI Spicer novels thrillers set very firmly in Manchester follow the maverick police detectives fortunes as he pursues mad, bad and deadly individuals through the citys ever-changing landscape. He continues to scribble away from a small hut in his garden, a scruffy little lurcher lying at his feet.
