My Fair Lady

One of the most famous and beloved musicals of the 20th Century comes to Hampton Hill Theatre for the first time. Featuring well-known songs such as On The Street Where You Live , I Could Have Danced All Night , Ascot Gavotte and Get Me To The Church On Time , Lerner & Loewe's My Fair Lady is a feast for the eyes and ears. And yet underneath the flowers and froth is a serious study of class struggle and the part played by privilege and education.
Based on George Bernard Shaw's 1912 play Pygmalion , it was first produced on Broadway in 1956 with Julie Andrews as Eliza Doolittle and Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins. It won 10 Tony Awards and ran for over 6 years (2,717 performances, a record at the time). In 1958 it transferred to London with its original stars, running for another 51/2 years. RexHarrison reprised his role in the 1964 feature film, but Audrey Hepburn (with singing dubbed by Marni Nixon) replaced JulieAndrews.
