Nature Sketching in St Illtud's Churchyard, Llantwit Major

Nature Sketching in St Illtud's Churchyard, Llantwit Major
Come and appreciate nature in the churchyard through drawing or writing for around an hour once a month, run by illustrator, Sarah Hannis. Drawing what you notice in nature can be a calming and inspiring experience. You do not have to be good at drawing or even have tried it before to feel the benefits. The act of trying to draw, making marks on paper based on what you see, hear, feel or smell, means that you may observe and appreciate much more than with a glance or photograph. I will be encouraging you to record what you notice however you wish and can offer guidance if you want. You dont have to show anyone or share what you have created. I hope you will find the process as enjoyable as I do and when looking back at your drawings, you will be reminded of the moment you drew them and feel more connected to nature. When: First Sunday of the month 2-3pm, (starting 2nd March) Where: St Illtuds churchyard, we will meet by the main entrance and then disperse throughout the churchyard as we get distracted by all things nature-y! Facilities available: Toilets and hot drink making facilities are available in the church. If its raining we can draw inside the church. The churchyard has benches dotted around if you need a seat or bring a sit mat/camping chair. Cost:Pay-as-you-can donation, (suggested donation of 6, but you do not have to pay anything). Any donations raised will be split between myself and the church and will go towards me guiding the event, any materials you would like to borrow and church facilities. What to bring: Please bring something to draw with/on if you have them (an old envelope and a biro is ok. A piece of board, clipboard or a book to lean on may also be helpful). I will bring a selection of materials to borrow or try out: sketching paper, boards to lean on, pencils and pens. Who is it for? Anyone wanting to get a bit closer to nature by recording what you can see around you. I find this helps me notice (and remember) so much more than just looking and/or photographing. Suitable for all levels, whether you are an absolute beginner or think you cant draw, to experienced sketchers. Come for an art and nature appreciation pep talk and watch your sketchbook blossom with your observations through the seasons... What will we see? We wont know until we look! But Im hoping we may see plants, insects and wildlife emerging and growing around us. It will be a mini adventure as we look for critters, listen to birds; feel the grasses and smell flowers.
