'One Man, Two Guvnors' plot centres on the perpetually hungry Francis Henshall, a fired skiffle musician in 1960s Brighton, who takes two jobs as a minder for two different gangsters, forcing him to keep them completely separate to prevent chaos, leading to hilarious complications as their identities intertwine, especially since one "guvnor" is actually a woman disguised as her dead gangster brother to find her boyfriend who killed him, while the other "guvnor" is that very killer hiding from the police.
